Our story

About Cullen’s Sheep Farm

Nestled in the heart of Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, Cullen’s Sheep Farm is a fourth-generation family-run sheep farm rooted in the traditions of hill sheep farming.

For generations, our family has made a living farming sheep on the beautiful, rugged mountainsides surrounding the ancient and historic valley of Glendalough.

Ours is a story of hard work, resilience and, above all, a deep love for the land and the traditional Irish farming way of life that is quickly disappearing.

We invite you to step back in time and experience, even for a short while, the peaceful and timeless charm of our working mountain farm.

A visit to Cullen’s Sheep Farm offers a unique, hands-on connection with the land, the animals and the generations of farming tradition that have shaped this beautiful part of County Wicklow.

Great experience! The tour was very informative, engaging, and well thought out. Richard had a great demonstration of the sheep dogs hearding skills and the whole tour group even got to hold some cute lambs at the end! Would happily go back again.

Wonderful tour, Richard is a natural at it and has great pieces and tidbits of history and information throughout the tour. Very cool seeing the border collies in action and learning about their training. Also super fun to hold the lambs at the end, great experience!

We where there as part of a guided tour and it was amazing! The sheep dog demonstration was brilliant and the dog was so agile and well trained. It was also very interesting to learn about the sheep and training of the dogs and their personalities. The highlight was that we could hold and cuddle a lamb. It was a once in a lifetime experience.

Highly recommend a visit to Cullens Sheep Farm! We added this visit to our day trip to the Wicklow Mountains from Dublin. Communication with Richard was very easy and booking was straightforward as well. We enjoyed learning about the farm’s history and daily life from Richard. It was also a highlight watching the incredible sheepdog demonstration. We brought our 2- and 4-year-old, and both absolutely loved it—especially getting to hold a baby lamb at the end of the visit. We loved meeting Richard and talking with him, he was very warm and seemed to welcome visitors. I would highly recommend this unique, educational and fun experience!

An amazing, authentic Irish experience! I recently visited Cullen’s Sheep Farm and absolutely loved it. The farm is easy to reach—less than a 20-minute walk from Lynhams of Laragh pub, right next to the beautiful Brockagh Mountain. Richard is a fantastic host and incredibly knowledgeable. We had a great conversation about the Black Cheviot sheep. He owns over 600 sheep, mostly Wicklow Cheviot (some crossed with Suffolk) and some Dorset. Watching the border collie demonstration was incredible, and holding the baby lambs in our arms was pure joy. I highly recommend visiting this wonderful place! 😊

Very informative. The farmer answered any and all questions. It's better than another sheep farm I've been to with different tour company. The admission price is included with the tour.

Fun and engaging for the whole family! Richard was an exceptional host! He was warm, friendly, and a wonderful storyteller as a fourth generation sheep farmer! My girls and I marveled at Rob (the sheep dog) and Richard’s ability to round-up and direct the sheep during the highly engaging demonstration. Of course, holding and cuddling lambs at the end of the tour was a definite highlight! However, Richard also weaved in other aspects of Irish history including the Mass Rock, in which we visited a site on the farm where Catholics worshipped in secret during British rule. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and hard to leave!

Sheep and dogs....what more can you ask for? Had a wonderful time here on our Wild Rovers tour. It was very informative and entertaining to say the least. Nice that toilets were available and of course holding the lambs were so rewarding! Belle, Bob and Coop were awesome entertainment. Thank you to the Cullen crew!

Experience a real sheep farm What a fun experience! We held baby lambs and watched the border collie (Spot) herd the sheep. Richie explained how he trains the dogs and many other things about his farm and business. Highly recommend, and recommend Wild Rover tours for the trip down.
